In 2024, the government issued Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024 on the Organization of the Halal Product Assurance Sector (“Regulation 42/2024”), as an Amendment to Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021 on the Organization of the Halal Product Assurance Sector (“Regulation 39/2021”), which was enacted in order to ensure legal certainty regarding the halal status of products, as evidenced through the securing of halal certification.[1] With the enactment of Regulation 42/2024, all provisions originally set out under Regulation 39/2021 were repealed and declared no longer valid, thereby establishing the more recent framework as the primary legal basis for the administration of halal product assurance.[2]
