Licensing and Practice of Medicine

Minister of Health Regulation No. 2052/MENKES/PER/X/2011 on the Licensing and Practice of Medicine (“Regulation”) was issued to meet address developments in the practice of medicine and in licensing medical practicesand replaces Minister of Health Regulation No. 512/Menkes/Per/IV/2007 (“2007 Regulation”).

Key terms, such as “physician” and “practicing medicine” are defined in Article 1 of the Regulation. For the purposes of this Regulation, practicing medicine includes activities performed by both physicians and dentists (Article 1 (1)).

Furthermore, a “Letter of Assignment” is a written document provided by provincial health office to a physician or dentist to practice medicine at certain health care facilities (Article 1 (5)). A “Certificate of Registration” (Surat Tanda Registrasi - STR) is written evidence provided by an independent body called the Indonesian Medical Council (Konsil Kedokteran Indonesia – KKI) to registered physicians and dentists (Article 1 (6) and (13)).
