Food Categories Redefined

The Head of the National Agency for Drug and Food Control (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan – “BPOM”) has issued Regulation No. 1 of 2015 on Food Categories (“2015 Regulation”).

The 2015 Regulation provides for 15 food categories that will be used for determining the safety standards, quality, and nutritional value of foods.[1] Consequently, food that is produced in, imported into, or distributed in Indonesia must be classified under and comply with the requirements for these categories.[2]
