Indonesia to Implement Temporary Ban on Imports of Live Animals from China

The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019 - nCoV), which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has now spread to over 25 countries, causing alarm among public health authorities across the world.[1] The number of recorded cases of infections continues to grow rapidly and has now reached over 42,638 people. Meanwhile, the official death toll from the disease in China has now topped 1,016 people.[2]

Fortunately, Indonesia has yet to announce a confirmed case of coronavirus, a controversial fact which has astonished experts.[3] However, as a result of the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the coronavirus outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC),[4] the Minister of Trade (“Minister”) has just issued Regulation No. 10 of 2020 on the Temporary Ban on Imports of Live Animals from the People’s Republic of China (“Regulation 10/2020”).
